ImageMembers of the Dallas Safari Club battled the windy sporting clays course at the Dallas Gun Club on June 7 to benefit the Dallas Ecological Foundation. A tough course set-up presented a challenge for the shooters, but the sale of unlimited $5 mulligans helped several shooters to a score of 100 out of 100 potential targets. Former champion Roger Hooper said the course was as tough as he had seen it, but reached into his pocket to make the finals.

Other shooters struggled. Sean Polk, the fly-fishing manager at Orvis, one of the sponsors of the event, said of his day at the range, “I’m a fly fisherman, not a shooter.”

The final shoot-off presented an ultimate challenge. It was one station with a hard to hit mini black target launched from the high tower followed by a long quartering away orange target.

When the dust settled, a Beretta shotgun was won by John Calandro of Dallas, for high over-all score. Calandro was the only shooter to take all six targets in the shoot-off. John Harris was the top overall raw score winner and also won a fine shotgun.
