Lake Livingston has accounted for fair numbers of bass this summer as the lake has maintained its reputation as producing a strong afternoon bite.
Guide Simon Cosper reported that in the deeper parts of Livingston he was able to catch fish, with his largest weighing 6 pounds.
“The only thing is it is a midday bite; you can catch a few fish early,” Cosper said. “But, when it gets hot, fishing in deep shade or around boat docks has been key.”
Creature baits have been the most effective presentation, working them in shaded areas. Cosper said that most of his fishing isn’t done deeper than 10 feet. Because Livingston is shallow, fish tend to hold in its upper depths.
Even with the recent rains, the lake has remained fishable, as murky water hasn’t affected the number of fish caught.
The target area during the warm summer months should be the main body of the lake, and not off in different creeks and channels extending off the main body.
“It is mainly a main-lake bite; I try not to go into the creeks in the summertime,” Cosper said. “There, I definitely get cleaner water and a little cooler temperature on the main lake.”
