Another successful year for Trout Days

IMG 3560Unlike two years ago, no state record rainbow trout were caught at this year’s Hill Country Rivers Trout Days.

But that didn’t stop the event from being a big success, as more than 35 anglers competed in this year’s event earlier in January at Chalk Bluff Park on the Nueces River in Uvalde County.

Divisions this year included youth, open spin casting and open fly-fishing.

According to Amber Ybarra, executive administrative assistant for Hill Country Rivers, this year’s event had a great mix of dads and kids, along with contestants who have been coming for years.

“The youth really had fun and did great this year,” Ybarra said. “A.J. Bridges out of Sabinal was one of the youth who brought in a great catch. He started out great with his first fish being an albino trout that weighed 4.1 pounds.

“We also had multiple fisherman from both the Open Spin Cast and Open Fly reeling in some 4- to 6.5-pound trout.”

Ybarra said the event would not have been possible without the help from the Alamo Fly Fishers from San Antonio.

IMG 3553“I love that the fish were really biting from the moment you got out in the water until it was time to weigh in,” Ybarra said. “Everyone had a great time and we're already looking forward to next year’s Trout Days.”

A complete list of results was not available.
