Texas Big Game Awards offering $20,000 in scholarships

Rick Meritt of Gilmer, a previous Texas Big Game Awards honoree, poses with another of his trophy mule deer.Texas Big Game Awards is accepting applications for $20,000 in scholarships for students whose majors are related to agriculture or natural resources, according to a press release from the nonprofit.

Eight scholarships (one per TBGA region) awarded at $1,500 each, and the overall top scholarship applicant will receive $3,000.

 

Any entering college freshman (graduating high school senior), entering college sophomore or entering college junior is eligible to apply. The scholarship applications will be reviewed and ranked by a statewide scoring committee using set criteria. Applicants do not have to participate in the TBGA to be eligible for the scholarships.

The deadline is March 1.

The Texas Big Game Awards, a partnership of Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Texas Wildlife Association, recognize high-quality big-game animals, the hunters who harvest them, the land managers who produce them, among other things.
