The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently approved the 2010-11 Texas dove season, which will be 70 days total with a 15-bird daily bag limit statewide, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife.

Dove-teal-season-datesTexas dove season in the North and Central Dove Zones will open Sept. 1, a Wednesday, and close Oct. 24, a Sunday. It reopens Dec. 25 through Jan. 9. Not more than two white-tipped doves may be included in the daily bag limit.

The South Zone dove season is Friday, Sept. 17, through Sunday, Oct. 31, reopening Dec. 25 through Jan. 18 with a 15-bird daily bag and not more than two white-tipped doves.

The possession limit is twice the daily bag for all migratory game birds except light geese and sora and Virginia rails.

The Special White-winged Dove Area, in South Texas, will open to white-winged dove afternoon-only (noon to sunset) hunting the first two full weekends in September. The dates are Sept. 4-5 and Sept. 11-12. The season reopens with the regular South Zone season Sept. 17 through Oct. 31 and again from Dec. 25 through Jan. 14.

During the early two weekends in the Special White-winged Dove Area, the daily bag limit is 15 birds, to include not more than four mourning doves and two white-tipped doves. Once the general season opens, the aggregate bag limit will be 15.

The early teal season in Texas will last 16 days from Sept. 11-26.

The season for rail and gallinule is Sept. 11-26 and Oct. 30-Dec. 22. For snipe, the dates are Oct. 30-Feb. 13. And woodcock hunting will be allowed Dec. 18-Jan. 31.
