Poetry Shooting Club is a family style private shooting club open daily and located 35 miles east of Dallas, 8 miles north of Terrell in the community of Poetry, Texas.
Poetry Shooting Club was started as a Private Bird Hunting Area for bird dog training and a Quail Hunting Preserve in the spring of 2011. Quail hunting is offered for self-guided and guided hunts for friends, family and business contacts in or out of season and without limits. Bird dog owners are catered to with training fields and flighty quail and instruction is offered if needed with remote controlled bird launchers.
The club now offers a pistol range to 100 yards and a rifle range to 700 yards. Use is always by appointment and we only book one group at a time so you get private use and run of the range. We offer a big bore and large caliber rifle and pistol area and an indoor reloading location. Manager Walter Patton is a new member of and advertiser with Dallas Safari Club.
The club has a small archery area, a shaded rimfire wheel chair-accessible shooting lane to 100 yards, a clay pigeon thrower, and has day lease hunting guided and unguided in season for dove, duck, goose, deer and pigs.
Their motto is “Take a youth shooting to build boldness and confidence in their future.”
The location has been a family and friends of family shooting venue for more than fifty five years. Walter Patton and wife Grace live on site and manage the club. There is a classroom for instructional purposes. Classes are offered on an as needed basis for CHL licensing, pistol and rifle introduction, firearm safety and skeet shooting. Annual membership is $15 and free for under 16, seniors over 65, military and disabled.
Membership allows for many different family uses from private countryside exercise walking, overnight camping, catch and release pond fishing, squirrel and rabbit chasing and camp fire building. The location is also available for family or company party venues. Private quail hunts can be arranged on members property and manager Walter with his three bird dogs does upland bird hunting guide services when time allows.
