Story by TPWD

TPWD has a goal of trapping 1000 turkeys across Texas for the next 5 years. Our primary goal of the banding study is to estimate harvest rates in various ecoregions across Texas. We are also taking some blood samples for Tarleton State University to test for the prevalence of Reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV) a virus that can cause runting and cancer in wild turkeys. This shot gets us a little closer to the goal.
