PLEASE NOTE: TPWD has discontinued fishing reports. These reports appeared in the June 26 issue of Lone Star Outdoor News by Chuck Uzzle.
Sabine Lake
- Fishing remains steady even after the tropical storm and run off
- Speckled trout are good in the mid lake areas on light-colored soft plastics near rafts of shad or small shrimp
- Some schooling activity for both trout and redfish going on around the southern end of the lake
- Redfish continue to be good along the east shoreline and near the jetties
- Black drum and sheepshead are good on live shrimp under rattling corks along the rocks and in the channel
- Water temps are in the mid 80s, and the clarity is marginal closer to the mouth of the Neches and Sabine rivers
Galveston/Trinity bays
- Post tropical storm conditions have changed the patterns up for both trout and redfish
- Open water shell reefs have been solid for trout on glow and bone diamond soft plastics
- Concentrations of shad have been the best indicator for finding fish
- Redfish and trout were very good in the Bolivar pocket prior to the heavy rains they should return once the water clarity gets better
- Plenty of sharks in the area, so pay attention if you wade
- Heavy runoff has moved fish from the back bays out into the open water; look for the fish to stack up in the lower parts of the bays until the runoff slows
East and West Matagorda bays
- Trout action improved with lighter winds between thunderstorms
- Best bet has been soft plastics under a cork or live shrimp while drifting in 6 feet of water
- Redfish are best over mud flats on the incoming tide
- Freshwater runoff has been the biggest factor to contend with as fishing remains steady
- Lower-than-predicted rainfall amounts have been just enough to move the fish only slightly towards the open bay
- West Matagorda trout fishing has been solid for quality fish on or near grass beds from Cullen House to Greens Bayou
- Bass Assassins in chicken on a chain, Fresco Shrimp colored Down Souths, and Salt and Pepper Hogie Major Minnows have all been producing speckled trout
- Post-storm runoff has made redfish scarce, but a few fish are being caught
- Live shrimp and cut mullet are working on reds near the back lakes
Rockport
- Trout fishing continues to be solid with boxes of upper-slot fish
- Releasing just as many oversized as undersized when weather allows
- Deep shell in the middle bays has been the most productive area for speckled trout
- Copano Bay is very fresh and will continue to see runoff for a few more days
- Black drum and a few redfish are being caught on scattered shell
- Dead shrimp on the bottom or under a popping cork working the best
Baffin Bay
- High water levels have slowed the bite down for quality speckled trout
- Good numbers of slot fish have moved into the bay and are scattered along the shorelines with the high water
- Best big trout bite has been following rafts of mullet over shell and grass
- Larger soft plastics with paddle tails fished in 2 to 2.5 feet of water have been producing the most consistent bites
- Redfish have been slow after the last remnants of the tropical storm passed
- Water temps are running 84-87 with good clarity
- Overall, the bay is excellent shape
