UPDATE on 8/6 at 3:45 p.m.

Coast Guard watchstanders were notified Thursday that a body was located in the vicinity of a search they coordinated Wednesday near San Leon, Texas.

Coast Guard helicopter crews searched by air as Texas City police and fire department crews searched by boat and on shore Wednesday after a man reported that he couldn’t locate his son, 26-year-old Danny Joseph Kenney. The man reported that he last saw his son when his son was wade fishing in Dickinson Bay near Shell Island early Wednesday morning and believed he may have walked to shore.

The Coast Guard search was suspended shortly after Texas City authorities stopped searching Wednesday afternoon due to being unable to confirm that a person was missing.

At 11:09 a.m. Thursday, a boater notified the Coast Guard that he found a body outside of Dickinson Bay and the apparel matched the initial description of Kenney.

Texas City police are investigating the missing person incident.

UPDATE: LSON just received this from the UUSCGS on 8/6 at 9:30 a.m.:

“The search was called off (suspended) yesterday afternoon due to a lack of follow up information. We began the search with basic information as usual, but further investigation by the police and then the Coast Guard into the reporting source and story led us to believe that no one is missing.

I’m not sure if any other actions are being taken by the police, but everyone stopped searching yesterday.”

Original story:

The Coast Guard helicopter crews and Texas City police and fire departments are searching for a missing wade fisherman who went missing Wednesday morning in Dickinson Bay across from San Leon, Texas.

Missing is Danny Joseph Kenney, a 26-year-old man described as being about 6-feet tall, 180 pounds with red hair, wearing a white shirt, brown pants and an orange lifejacket.

The Texas City Police Department notified the Coast Guard after receiving a call from the man’s father, who had been fishing with him early Wednesday morning. It was reported that his father dropped him off to wade fish while the father continued fishing from his boat and the father was unable to relocate Danny.

If anyone knows or has seen Mr. Danny Kenney, or has any additional information that may assist the search effort, please contact the Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston Command Center at 281-464-4854 or on the radio at VHF Marine Channel 16.
