Billfish bite has been non-stop
It brings me great pleasure to share with you the latest fishing report from Crocodile Bay in Costa Rica. The fishing action here on the Osa Peninsula is still sizzling hot, and according to some of our experienced captains, the fishery in the peninsula is currently thriving like never before. The new commercial tuna fishing reforms, combined with strict measures to crack down on illegal fishing, has resulted in a healthier and more abundant fishery for the area, both inshore and offshore.
Speaking of offshore action, the billfish bite has been non-stop, and we’re still catching plenty of yellowfin tuna. Although the dorado season is slowly winding down, we’re still landing XL size bulls, with double digit catches every day. Did you know that dorado reproduce by the thousands and can reach sizes of up to 40 pounds in just a few months? So, don’t hesitate to take a few home for dinner – it’s one of the most delicious fish in the ocean!
For those wondering, you are more than welcome to bring your catch back to the resort and have our talented chef prepare it for you. Grilled with garlic butter is my top culinary recommendation, but there are many other delicious ways to prepare your catch as well. Choose your favorite.
Inshore fishing during February delivered some exciting surprises for our Crocodile Bay anglers, with African pompano, various snappers, bluefin trevally, and big roosterfish keeping us all entertained. What fighters these fish are!
For guests who prefer active angling, inshore fishing at Crocodile Bay is an absolute blast. We use various fishing techniques, including drifting live baits, bottom fishing, casting different types of artificial lures, and vertical jigging. The highlight of the inshore fishing during February was a 70 lbs rooster fish landed by Mr. Pheland aboard the Croc Star with Captain Humberto – a rare and unforgettable catch! That fish was a monster.

Mark is not your typical catching show host – he can educate you on all the different techniques and materials to use for a successful fishing day, both inshore and offshore. As a yearly tradition, we hosted the Brook Lunsford CVO tournament for the 8th consecutive year. This group holds a special place in our hearts, as they’ve become more like family than friends over the years. This year’s tournament was a total success, with lots of billfish and roosterfish landed. But, the most rewarding moment for us was hearing the group say, “It feels good to be home.” We added a few new faces to the big family this year, and they fell in love with Crocodile Bay right away. It’s always a pleasure to be a part of these adventures and create unforgettable moments for our guests.
