Weekend update

The blast of cold air that extended into the first part of the weekend didn’t deter the catfish from biting at Richland Chambers Lake. Guides Royce and Adam Simmons reported good size blue and channel catfish being caught on the lake Friday and Saturday. White Bass were a little more difficult to find and catch. Capt. Nathan Beabout, who guides salt-saltwater fishing trips out Seadrift and Port O’Connor, reported some solid trout fishing in recent days and predicts excellent winter fishing.

Duck hunting was on the slow side this weekend for Craig Nyhus and Dakota, the newsroom dog. Nyhus took Dakota afield to put his training to the test. Unfortunately, it was slim pickings for the pair. But the silver lining is Dakota practiced retrieving a duck shot by a fellow hunter. Nyhus reported Dakota did well to retrieve some decoys as well.
