New name, same great feel

Getaway Adventures Lodge has changed its name, but not its service.

In Port Mansfield since 1998, the lodge is known for its great fishing and facilities.

The new name is Getaway Lodge at Port Mansfield.

“This name reflects the proud past while highlighting the continuing commitment to providing our guests the best fishing experience, hospitality and value of any lodge on the Texas Gulf coast,” said owner Mike Sutton.

It’s hard to beat the fishing at Port Mansfield, especially if wade-fishing is your favorite way to land speckled trout and redfish.

“You don’t have the crowds of other boats or fishermen, and in most areas, the bottom is good and hard for wading,” said Lone Star Outdoor News’ Executive Editor Craig Nyhus. “And when you hit it right, the trout cooperate.”

After taking over operation of the lodge in 2013, the lodge management team, led by General Manager Sandra Garza, has continuously worked to improve the lodge facilities and hospitality.

The lodge has always been known for great food, and Garza has elevated the dining to an exceptional new level with her special touch to many of the old menu favorites as well as mouthwatering new items like her classic Key Lime Pie, the best Tres Leches cake ever and her own South Texas-style Getaway Baked Trout.

“The Tres Leches is my favorite, but Sandra’s enchiladas are awesome too,” said David J. Sams, Lone Star Outdoor News’ CEO.

Recent upgrades to the facilities and furnishings include flooring, beds, showers and plumbing with improvements continuing both inside and outside the lodge. And in 2018, the Governor’s Suite will be available, with a secluded living area, king bed and large, fully private bath area with walk-in shower.

“The lodge is a great place to relax after the fishing or hunting, and, when it warms up, the pool is even better,” Nyhus said.
