The National Rifle Association has announced Mid-Coast Friends of NRA in Victoria, as its 2014 Committee of the Year. Founded in 1994, Mid-Coast became the first committee in the history of Friends of NRA to raise more than $300,000 at a single event during its 2014 banquet last summer.

For the past 22 years, the Mid-Coast Friends of NRA have been led by husband and wife team Darrell and Sandra Hester. Serving respectively as the committee’s chair and treasurer, the two have helped Mid-Coast set the record for highest net over two consecutive years: $270,000 in 2013 and $316,000 in 2014.

“The strength of the Mid-Coast committee comes from the foundation built by the Hesters,” said Kyle Weaver, Executive Director of NRA General Operations. “Their leadership makes the whole team come together.”

The Hesters were honored guests at the 2015 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Nashville, Tennessee, where they received special recognition during the National NRA Foundation Banquet and Auction on Thursday, April 9. The committee’s hard work and fundraising efforts help The NRA Foundation support educational programs such as Eddie Eagle GunSafe®, a pre-k through fourth grade firearm accident prevention program, and Women On Target®, a clinic by women and for women that instructs on safe firearm handling and marksmanship.

Tickets are now on sale for Mid-Coast Friends of NRA’s 2015 fundraising banquet on September 10 in Victoria, Texas, at the Victoria Community Center. Learn more at www.friendsofnra.org/TX.
