DSCF0118Richard Pulvino thought he’d done something wrong when LSON Associate Editor Conor Harrison sent him an e-mail asking Pulvino to give him a phone call.

Turns out, Pulvino had been drawn as the winner of a $100 Academy gift card for signing up for the LSON hunting and fishing forum at lsonews.com.

Pulvino said he runs a small duck hunting and dog training facility in Rockwall, Texas and caters to small groups and family pets that people want to turn into hunting dogs.

“It’s a small outfit,” he said. “I’ve been doing it many years. I train retrievers and do guided waterfowl hunts on lakes Cooper, Tawakoni and Fork.”

Pulvino said this past duck season was one of his best ever, with clients shooting 780 ducks.

“I run a very non-commercial, low-key hunt and it works good for me,” he said. “I get to travel to different lakes, and this season we shot gadwalls, teal, pintails and a bunch of mallards until the end of the first split.”

Pulvino said he doesn’t compete in field trials with the dogs he trains, and they all stay in his home to get personal attention.

“I don’t take more than five dogs at a time,” he said.
